Privacy Policy

How SmartWit collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our website, apps, and tutoring services (together, the "Service"). By using SmartWit, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run a good tutoring service.

Information you give us

• Account details — your name, email address, phone number, and the grade or exam you're studying for.
• Learning content — the questions you ask, what you draw on the whiteboard, your answers, and the sessions you create.
• Messages — anything you send us through contact forms, support requests, or email.

Information we collect automatically

• Usage data — which features you use, time spent studying, streaks, and progress on each topic.
• Device and technical data — device type, operating system, browser, app version, and general location inferred from your IP address.
• Cookies and similar technologies — small files that keep you signed in and help us understand how the Service is used.

We do not knowingly collect more than is necessary, and we don't buy personal data about you from third parties.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

• provide, personalise, and improve the tutoring experience;
• track your progress and adapt explanations to your pace;
• create the summaries and reports shown to you;
• keep your account secure and prevent abuse or fraud;
• respond to your questions and support requests;
• send you important service messages (and, only with your consent, occasional product updates).

We never sell your personal information.

3. How we share information

We share information only in limited circumstances:

• Service providers — trusted companies that help us run the Service (for example, cloud hosting, email delivery, and analytics), under contracts that require them to protect your data and use it only for us.
• Legal reasons — when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the Service.

We do not share your information with advertisers, and the Service contains no third-party ads.

4. How we protect your information

We use technical and organisational measures — encryption in transit, access controls, and regular reviews — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep yours safe and to notify you if a breach ever affects you.

5. How long we keep your information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards, so you can return to your progress. Session transcripts and recordings are retained for a limited period (currently around 90 days) so you can replay sessions; whiteboard snapshots are kept for a shorter period. You may ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time (see below).

When you delete your account we keep three things. Records of payments we processed are retained, without your account attached, because we are required to keep financial records. We also keep a one-way scrambled code derived from your email address or phone number — not the address or number itself, and it cannot be turned back into them. Its only use is to recognise that this identity has already used a free trial, so that deleting and re-creating an account does not grant an unlimited supply of free trials. It is never used to contact you, to profile you, or for anything else.

The third is a usage record: counts and timings of things like sessions started, questions attempted and features used. These carry no name, email, phone number, transcript or written work — only an internal reference number — and we use them to understand how the product is working overall, never to build a profile of a person. They are not removed automatically when an account is deleted. If you would like them removed as well, email privacy@getsmartwit.com and we will delete them for you.

6. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• access the personal information we hold about you;
• correct information that is inaccurate;
• delete your account and personal data;
• object to or restrict certain processing;
• withdraw consent you previously gave;
• export a copy of your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these, email us at support@getsmartwit.com. We'll respond within a reasonable time and in line with applicable law.

7. A note on AI

SmartWit is an AI tutor. It can make mistakes, and its responses should be double-checked for anything important. The Service is a study aid and is not a substitute for a qualified teacher. Your learning content may be used to operate and improve the Service as described above.

8. International users

Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own. Wherever it is processed, we apply the protections described in this policy.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know in the app or by email. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
